Historical Markers
Remains of Challenger lowered into Silo 31B, NASA photo Wreckage and boxes of STS-51L Challenger debris were delivered to the site starting on 8 January 1987, lowered into silos 31B and 32B and then capped with concrete lids. NASA recovered 235,000 pounds of STS 51L. There are no markers at or near the silos as they are considered storage areas and not the final resting places. The story is covered in the 9 January 1987 Missileer.
